I have been a computer user since 1982, a Linux user since 1998 and recently have been embracing Unix as my system of choice.

I like Unix for the technical aspects and also the historical aspects of it as the first operating system developed.

Unix also is a ‘complete’ operating system as opposed to Linux, Linux is the kernel, all other variations are ‘added on’ to create

the multitude of distributions we see today. Red Hat was my first Linux system, which I enjoyed very much.

I have used many distributions of Linux, including Red Hat, Slackware (the oldest Linux distribution), Mandrake, Fedora and Debian.

I used to be a member of the Manchester Linux User Group (ManLUG) when it was based in the Computer Science Department of the University of Manchester.

Below is a photograph from one of the meetings.

The system of choice at ManLUG was Debian, and I have been using it for many years. I decided a change was needed and now use GhostBSD.

Many people over the years have had the benefit of my assistance, including, but not limited to:

Windows Password Recovery.

Windows Re-Installations.

Linux installations, with additional advice and support.

Windows Virus Recovery.

Many booting issues.

Printer set up and wirless connections.

White Hat’ remote server accessing (owners permission).

Various Penetration Testing (owners permission).

Created 3rd Sector Websites and Forums.

Much more help and advice over the years, too lengthy to list.

I also have written, formatted, edited and self-published a book Link Here which currently sits on the Amazon website and am writing another. My books are written

wholely with Free Software. There are many applications to write books, websites (this one is done in Libre Office). I always like to keep everything simple, without

the bells and whistles many people use.

Apart from writing my next book, (which will involve more in the way of computing), I like photography and reading old Unix books, I shall add a dedicated page for each.

I no longer have the time nor inclination to be crawling around under a dusty table sorting computer cables out, although I do help friends and family if they are in need.

I have also recently had an interest in the origins of Unix systems and the people who worked on the original coding which revolutionised computing.

This website is hosted on SDF.org, I have been an ‘ARPA’ member for many years and have found it to be the best out there for hosting and email.
